Kendrapara: An auto driver was allegedly hacked to death yesterday in Pattamundai police station jurisdiction in Kendrapara district by unidentified assailants.
The deceased has been identified as Rashmi Ranjan Das (28), a native of Damarpur village. Locals spotted the body lying in a poll of blood in an orchard in Balabhdrapur village during wee hours today. Police retrieved the body and sent it for post mortem.
The auto rickshaw which he used to drive was lying about 100 feet away from the spot of the crime.
The body bore deep wound marks on head. Besides there were cut marks on other parts of the body. Therefore it could be construed that he was murdered by one or more persons. Forensic teams are assisting the local police in cracking the suspected murder case, said Sub Divisional Police Officer, Uma Shankar Moharana.
Das had left home with the auto yesterday noon and did not return home. Family members were shocked to find him dead today morning.
The First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the deceased’s family has named four persons from the village and suspected them to have perpetrated the murder to settle an old score.
The suspects are being questioned. Police are looking into all angles to the crack the suspected murder, police added.
