Balasore: With the unguarded ATM kiosks becoming crime-mongers’ soft targets, Balasore police have issued directives to the authorities of nationalized and private banks to put in place round-the-clock security at the cash kiosks to prevent cases of robberies.
In crowded Niliabag locality in Balasore town, miscreants vandalized an ATM kiosk yesterday night. The criminals failed to in their bid to break open the cash chest. Recurrence of cases of ATM robberies has put the police in a spot of bother. Three cases of such robberies occurred in the district since past six months.
Police have stepped up its drive to thwarts the recurring cases of ATM robberies. As majority of bankers have not provided security guards, we have asked to beef up manual security mechanism besides improved camera surveillance at these kiosks. These measures will put brakes on such robberies. These are preventive measures to stop such improvised crimes, said senior police officials.
The banks have been asked to deploy security guards round the clock at the ATM kiosks. Besides they have been asked to upgrade their machines and install high resolution CCTV cameras. The banks were also told to install state-of-the-art security alarm system at branches to keep tab on bank robberies.
We had invited the bankers for a meeting to improve security in ATM kiosks and bank branches. We submitted the security enhancement proposals to keep the criminals at bay. The bankers have promptly consented to implement the security measures in a short duration, officials said.
The ATM kiosks where the robbers struck were bereft of security guard. Besides the ATMs were located at deserted spots which had made the things easier for the miscreants to commit crime.
