Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government today prohibited sale of eggs, chickens, ducks for a period of ten days in Krushna Prasad block in Puri district and adjoining areas after samples of crows and chickens taken earlier tested positive for H5N1.
The import and sale of all poultry products, particularly eggs, chickens etc, have been prohibited till December 22 next. This is a precautionary measure that is being initiated to contain an outbreak of the highly contagious bird flu, said officials.
The exercise of culling of poultry birds will be undertaken. Rapid Response Team (RRT) is being constituted for the purpose. The affected poultry farmers would be duly compensated as per the government rules.
Samples of two crows, two chickens were tested flu positive in diagnosis test in Animal Disease Research Institute (ADRI), Odisha and were later confirmed by National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal.
Flu alert remains in force for areas that lies with two kilometre radius of Krushna Prasad block.These areas have been categorised as ‘infected area’ and has been notified as ‘surveillance zone, said officials.
