Bhubaneswar: Veteran politician and seven-time MLA Prafulla Ghadei, who was re-inducted into BJD fold last month almost five years after his expulsion from the regional party, was appointed as a senior poll observer of the regional party on Monday.
Ghadei’s expulsion order was revoked on March 18. A release from the party issued today said Ghadei has been assigned the responsibility of senior observer of the party to oversee the upcoming polls in Chilika, Ranpur and Khordha assembly constituencies.
It’s pertinent to note here that Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik has expelled Ghadei on September 20, 2014 for alleged anti-party activities.
Ghadei had been shown the exit door from the party then in the wake of his anti-Naveen statement published in a vernacular daily.
Ghadei in an interview to the daily had reportedly said “Naveen is the chief minister while he did not do or understand anything. He depends on others…he has become dull mentally and physically… People are tolerating him because it is Odisha. People support him because there is no opposition in Odisha”.
The interview had snowballed into a major political controversy leaving the BJD chief Patnaik red-faced. Ghadei was removed from the party and the senior leader was not provided the opportunity of defence.
