Berhampur: The vigilance wing of Odisha police today arrested a forest guard in Odisha’s Kandhamal district while demanding and accepting monetary gratification of Rs 5,000 from a complainant.
The arrested forest guard Manoranan Amat posted at Tikaballi forest range had demanded bribe from the complainant Srimukha Kanhara. The complainant was carrying minor minerals from forest for domestic use when the accused intercepted him and demanded bribe.
Harassed over extortion tactics, the complainant informed the vigilance sleuths. Accordingly a trap was laid. The accused forest personnel was caught red-handed while receiving demanded amount at the forest office premises
When the complainant handed over the chemical- coated currencies to the accused at the pre-determined spot, the sleuths caught him.
The bribe-taking forest employee was booked under various provisions of prevention of corruption act, said vigilance officials. He would be remanded to judicial custody later tomorrow, they added.
