Bargarh : In a case of ‘protector turning predator’, a police officer in Odisha’s Bargarh district has been accused of committing rape of a minor girl prompting the authorities to place him under suspension.
The accused cop Banamali Kuanra, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Sohela police station faced the allegation with the victim’s father lodging a complaint against Kuanra and another man identified as Kaiblya Nag.
The duo had allegedly kidnapped the victim (14) on February 8 when she was returning home from tuition classes. The duo later raped her, the FIR alleged.
A case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012 and relevant sections of Indian Penal Code has been registered. While one of the accused Nag has been arrested, the accused ASI is being interrogated, said a senior police official.
