Bargarh : Festive spirit has taken a firm grip over Odisha’s Bargarh Township with the commencement of 70th Dhanu Yatra, believed to be the largest open air theatre in the world.
The 11-day cultural festival that kicked off on Friday would conclude on December 22. Thousands of people have made a beeline to Bargarh town which has been made to resemble Mathura — the birthplace and homeland of Lord Krishna.
The festival owes its genesis to Puranic themes of Krishna Leela and Mathura Vijay.
While river Jeera of Bargarh has been made to resemble river Yamuna, Amapali, located on the outskirts of the town, has been transformed into Gopapura.
It will be reign of demon king Kansa in Bargarh for 11 days. The tyrannical rule of Kansa, his death and the exploits of Lord Krishna will be enacted in 14 main places in Mathura and Gopapura. The cultural festival symbolises the age-old concept of victory of good over evil.
