Bhubaneswar: An eight-year-old African lion died at Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) here on Friday morning following sudden illness.
After it developed sickness, the vets at the zoo administered IV fluid. However the captive animal procured from Israel could not be saved despite best possible efforts. The veterinary surgeons from Orissa University Agriculture Technology have conducted the post mortem of the body and its reports are awaited, said NZP Deputy Director, Jayant Das said.
With the death of the animal, the population of lion in the zoo has come down to 13 which included 6 males and seven females.
