Cuttack: Not a single student in as many as 82 schools could come out successful in High School Certificate (HSC) Examination, results of which were declared on Tuesday by Odisha Board of Secondary Education.
Ironically the number of high schools with ignominious ‘zero result’ tag has registered a massive upswing this year, leaving the schools and mass education department authorities in a quandary. As against 36 such school with dubious pass percentage track record, it has climbed up to 83, thus registering 227 % rise. The number of zero-result schools is steadily on the rise. It was 14 and 21 respectively in 2017 and 2018 year.
The teachers of zero-result schools would be taken to task. A departmental probe is being initiated to ascertain the cause for such drastic decline in academic standard of students in these schools, said principal secretary in the school and mass education department, Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra.
Increased surveillance on examination malpractice besides the parallel set of questions this year has thwarted the unscrupulous students from resorting to unfair means in the examination. That is being believed to be one of the factors for rise in the number of zero-result schools, he added.
