Jagannath Temple’s ‘Neela Chakra’ Not Damaged By Cyclone Fani

Puri: The Neela Chakra (Blue Wheel), metal wheel installed atop of the Puri Lord Jagannath temple, was not damaged by cyclone Fani as it was earlier apprehended.

The Archaeological Survey of India has submitted its drone camera report to the temple management. The report categorically stated that Nila Chakra is very much safe. Despite the impact of gusty wind of more than 200 kilo metre per hour, the holy wheel withstood the severe cyclonic storm, said the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration chief administrator Pradipta Mohapatra.

However parts of the 12th century Shree Jagannath temple in Puri were damaged as Cyclone Fani ripped through the holy town on May 3. The main structure of the temple was unaffected. The repair of the damaged portions will be concluded before the Rath Yatra festival.
