Baripada: Normal life was thrown completely out of gear today with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) staging dawn-to-dusk bandh across Mayurbhanj district to press forth three-point charter of demands including establishment of a permanent High Court bench at Baripada.
Vehicular movement virtually came to a grinding halt in all parts of the district as passenger buses, trucks and auto-rickshaw remained off the roads. Shops, business establishments and commercial centres downed their shutter. The shutdown observed today has been incident-free so far. Adequate security measures have been initiated to avert possible breach of peace, said police officials.
People of Mayurbhanj district have been vociferously demanding the establishment of a separate bench of High Court. But the State government has turned blind eye to it. The railway connectivity in Mayurbhanj district is left much to be desires. People want improved rail connectivity in Mayurbhanj district. Besides the government-run health service network is on the verge of complete breakdown in the district. Our demand is that the government has to fill up all vacancies of doctors’ posts within a month, said the district unit leader of JMM.
