Paradip: Jagatsinghpur police have busted an interstate gang of fraudsters thriving on deceiving gullible people on the pretext of supplying mythical Lord Hanuman embossed coins.
The gang members had taken Sandip Krishna Das from Cuttack city for a ride by deceiving him of Rs 28 lakh. Following the complaint lodged by the victim, six members of the gang were arrested.
Superstitious belief prevails in various parts of the state these coins minted during British Raj possess super-natural powers. Its possession would usher in enormous wealth and prosperity. It’s a myth as no so such coin ever existed. The fraudsters exploit the mythical belief to cheat the people, said Inspector, Paradip Lock Paradip police station, Chinmoy Rout.
Of the 28 lakh sum swindled from complainant Sandip Krishna Das, Rs 14.77 lakh was seized from the six arrested accused persons.
The gang had laid out a well-orchestrated ploy to deceive the man who was willing to buy the ‘mythical’ coin at the cost of his lifetime savings. He fell into their trap and had lost Rs 28 lakh while endangering his life in the process.
