Bhubaneswar: The brand of Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi paid rich dividends in the poll outcome of eight parliamentary seats won by BJP in Odisha in 2019 polls.
The pertinent feature of saffron party’s surge leading to its tally increasing from one seat (2014) to eight (2019) is that Prime Minister’s Naredra Modi either addressed poll rallies or held road show in these constituencies.
BJP bagged eight Lok Sabha seats- Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj, registering eight fold increase of its 2014 tally.
Modi held a roadshow in Bhubaneswar while BJP’s star campaigner addressed election rallies in these Lok Sabha constituencies. The Modi effect was translated to votes with saffron party winning these seats, said leaders of BJP’s State unit.
Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency was the sole exception where Modi’s visit did not pay dividends. Party’s national vice president Baijayant Panda was trounced comprehensively by BJD candidate in the LS polls for the seat.
However Naveen brand got the better of Modi wave in the assembly segments coming under these parliamentary seats.
