Bhubaneswar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued summons directing the to the Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare to personally appear before the panel on the denial of basic health service to a pregnant woman resulting in her death.
Acting on the petition moved by Sangita Swain, secretary, Human rights watch, the rights panel directed the state health department head to appear before the commission with a compliance report on March 14.
The pregnant woman from Brahmagiri police station area of Puri district was allegedly denied government-run ambulance facility. As a result, should could not be hospitalized on time and died of labour pain on March 4, 2016.
The NHRC had earlier asked the state government agencies for compliance reports on the alleged denial health service to the victim woman. But they sat over the matter without furnishing compliance reports.
