Bhubaneswar: Though all the parties are laying claim on according focus on women, youths and clean candidates, ‘winnability’ will be the main yardstick for distribution of tickets by principal contenders- BJD,BJP and Congress- in poll-bound Odisha.
BJD president and incumbent chief minister Naveen Patnaik has already made public that winnability will be the principal criteria for the regional party in distribution of tickets.
For both the opposition- BJP & Congress- the theory remains the same despite their claim of emphasis on clean people, youths and women.
The BJP has said that it will take the decision on ticket distribution only after detailed discussion among the party workers and leaders.
The ruling BJD is trying to tide over possible anti-incumbency syndrome against it and there is every likelihood that BJD supremo Patnaik, who has left no stone unturned in coming to power for the record fifth term, may replace around 70 sitting MLAs with new faces. Patnaik is bound to drop non-performing MLAs and ministers in the wake of political resurgence of opposition- BJP & Congress- in recent times.
“The party will take no chances this time. We have judged the plus points of the opposition. To ensure our victory, a large number of sitting MLAs will be shown the exit door as they are facing strong anti-incumbency mood of the voters. Popularity of Naveen Babu is still intact. The party will cash in on the clean image, good governance of chief minister”, said a BJD insider adding that first-phase of party candidates may be announced on Friday afternoon.
