Bhadrak: Three suspected drug peddlers were arrested today from Odisha’s Bhardak district in a pre-dawn swoop by excise personnel.
The interception took place near Charampa railway station chowk in the district headquarters township. 20 gram of brown sugar narcotic substance valued at around Rs 5 lakh was seized from their possession. A Travera vehicle in which they were carrying the contraband was also seized, excise personnel said.
The suspected peddlers are being interrogated to ascertain whether they operated a racket. They have been booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act, said officials.
Of late, Bhadrak and Balasore districts have turned into a hub of brown sugar trade. With drug peddlers spreading their tentacles across these districts, there are reports of youths felling into their vicious trap coming under the spell of addiction, much to the concern of civil and police administration.
