Puri: Power supply to 12th century Jagannath temple, which was plunged into darkness after May 3 cyclone ‘Fani’ had battered Puri district was restored on Wednesday afternoon hours.
Apart from the holy shrine, the rest of the district, including the pilgrim town of Puri, is still going powerless.
Meanwhile the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who reviewed the post-cyclone restoration work in Puri today announced Rs 2.5 litre free kerosene to each of the cyclone-affected families every ten days. They will receive free kerosene till the power supply is fully restored.
Keeping in view the non-restoration of power supply, the government has decided to distribute 10 lakh candles free to the cyclone affected people. Besides free sanitary napkins will be distributed in cyclone-hit areas, he said.
Each of the cyclone hit family will be provided with 50 kg rice. Those who are not having NFSA cards will also be covered under free rice aid, he added.
