Puri Mob Violence : Five Cops Suspended

Puri: Puri Superintendent of Police today placed under suspension five policemen on dereliction of duty in connection with the October 3 mob violence at the residence of Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Maheswar Mohanty.

Those suspended cops are Havildar Biswanath Mishra, constables Satyabadi Swain, Nagarjuna Paris, Papin Behera and Suman Gochhayat.

Meanwhile police have arrested 23 trouble-makers so far in connection with the arson and violence that erupted near Jagannath temple in Puri on October 3.

Over a dozen of policemen were injured as violence had broken out here on October3 during a 12-hour bandh called by a socio-cultural organisation protesting introduction of a queue system for devotees visiting the Jagannath Temple.

The miscreants had also made forced entry into the house of Minister Mohanty and ransacked the household belongings.
