Bhubaneswar : With general election for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls barely months away, the All India Congress Committee President Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Odisha on January 25 is poised to provide fillip to the grand old party.
The victories in the assembly polls in three Hindi belt states have rejuvenated the Congress party in Odisha. Rahul’s visit would bolster the party organizational network and its cadres at the grass root level.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi will address a public meeting at Bali Yatra ground in Cuttack during his Odisha visit on January 25. Gandhi will reach Bhubaneswar at about 10 am on January 25 and then meet some intellectuals in the city before attending a workers meeting in Cuttack. He will join the public meeting at about 2.30 pm. Rahul Gandhi will also visit the state in February.
Gandhi’s visit assumes significance as Odisha is preparing for twin elections to the state assembly and the Lok Sabha later this year.
Intraparty squabble in the party had come to the fore recently with former minister and senior Congress leader Srikant Jena resigning from all posts in the party, including the State executive committee, election and core committees. Jena was earlier removed as chairman of the party’s poll manifesto committee.
People will show the exit door to BJP as they have done in five states which went to polls. BJP was vociferously campaigning for Congress-Mukth India. Time has now come for BJP-Mukth Bharat. Congress is on revival path both in the country and the State. The nearly-two-decade-old stint of Naveen Patnaik-ruled BJD government will come to an end in the coming year. The conscious voters of Odisha will throw out the Patnaik-led government and will repose faith in the Congress in the State, remarked Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president, Niranjan Patnaik.
Speaking on the same line party’s poll manifesto committee chairman, Ganeswar Behera said “Both BJP and BJD will fare poorly in the coming polls. Congress will bounce back to power under able leadership of party president Rahul Gandhi”
