Bhubaneswar: Unaccounted cash worth over Rs 14.68 lakh was seized on Sunday by the enforcement squad of the election commission at Gopinathpur Chowk in Brahmagiri police station area of Puri district.
A motorcyclist was intercepted and the cash was found stashed inside the dickey of the bike. One person has been detained in this connection, police said.
The motorcyclist has been detained and is being quizzed, police said.
The seizure was made as per the guidelines followed during and before elections to check possible flow of cash for inducing voters.
The cash was seized as its carrier did not carry authorization letter to carry cash over Rs 50,000 during and before polls. The source of the seized cash is being verified, said police officials.
Enforcement teams working under the Election Commission in Odisha have so far seized more than Rs 3 crore cash during searches across the State.
Flying and vigilance squads are keeping an eye to prevent illegal transportation of cash, liquor, drugs and jewelleries, said officials.
