Bhubaneswar: Unaccounted cash worth over Rs 42 lakh was seized on Monday by the enforcement squad of the election commission at Dighala Chowk on the Konarak-Nimapara road in Odisha’s Puri district.
A car was intercepted and the cash was found stashed in a bag inside it. One person has been detained in this connection, police said.
The seizure was made as per the guidelines followed during and before elections to check possible flow of cash for inducing voters.
The cash was seized as its carrier did not carry authorization letter to carry cash over Rs 50,000 during and before polls. The source of the seized cash is being verified, said police officials.
Enforcement teams working under the Election Commission in Odisha have so far seized nearly Rs 3 crore cash during searches across the State.
Flying and vigilance squads are keeping an eye to prevent illegal transportation of cash, liquor, drugs and jewelleries, said officials.
