Bhubaneswar: Scared of imminent defeat in the polls, the ruling BJD has resorted to blood-letting and killing of its political opponents, alleged the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Reacting to the gunning down of Manguli Jena, BJP’s mandal president of Khurda zone-9, union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday alleged “the murder has been orchestrated by ruling BJD. Getting the whiff of defeat, BJD is treading the path of murder to intimidate BJP”.

“Democracy has no place for violence and blood-letting. People of Odisha will give their reply to bullet through ballot in the coming election” said Pradhan said appealing the party cadres and leaders to keep faith in democracy and maintain peace at this time.

BJD believed in the ideology of violence to silence political opponents. In last panchayat elections in 2017, the hired goons of BJD had unleashed a reign of terror in Odisha killing as many as 17 political opponents, he said.

It’s unfortunate to note that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who is still in the charge of home department, has adopted ‘escapist’ attitude and has shifted the onus to the election commission for restoration of order, he said.

It may be recalled here that unidentified bike-borne miscreants had gunned down BJP leader Jena in Odisha’s Khurda town. The murder had sparked off widespread protest with the saffron party observing six-hour shutdown.

Police which have constituted special squads comprising senior officials are yet to identify the killers.
