Student Gives Birth At School Hostel : Tension In Daringibadi

Phulbani : A 12-year old girl staying at a hostel for tribal girls in Odisha’s Kandhamal district gave birth to a child early morning today, prompting the district administration to order an inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile tension has mounted up in Daringibadi area even as agitated people blocked the National Highway no-49 following the minor girl student of a government-run residential school for Scheduled Tribe students giving birth to baby in the hostel premises.

The hostel inmate, 8th standard student of the school in Daringibadi, gave birth to the child during wee hours today. As the news of the unsavoury episode spread fast, angry people alleging sexual assault of the minor gheraooed the school and later blocked the highway.

Police forces have rushed to the school and the highway where people are agitating. Situation is tense. We are trying to restore order, said a police official.

It is a grave matter. The administration has ordered a probe into it.

The school is run by the tribal welfare department of state government. The enrolled students are provided classroom teaching, food and accommodation free here.
