Bhubaneswar: The exit polls predicted another term for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while Patnaik-led BJD is set to lose ground to arch rival BJP in the Lok Sabha seats.
Questions that remain foremost in everybody’s minds is whether Patnaik will assume power for the record fifth term in Odisha.
If the projections made by exit poll pollsters are any indication, the saffron party appeared to make major gains in the State both in the assembly and Lok Sabha polls while the Congress is relegated to poor third spot.
It remains to be seen whether the poll results on May 23 will reaffirm Naveen, suave soft-spoken and a man of few words, as the most charismatic leader in Odisha. As the invincibility tag surrounding him was seemingly under the threat following a resurgent BJP, Patnaik had gone all out covering all the constituencies in whistle-stop poll campaign.
For BJP, Odisha was a focus State for consolidating votes and wrest seats from ruling BJD. The saffron seat had managed to get Sundargarh seat only out of 21 Lok Sabha sets in the State. The party has also set a target to win ‘120+’ seats out of 147 assembly seats.
