11,000 Villages In Odisha Bereft Of Mobile Services

Bhubaneswar: Around 11,000 human settlements in Odisha are yet to be covered under mobile phone network, adversely affecting the online cash transfer to beneficiaries under various social welfare schemes.

While 77.22% people in Odisha have access to mobile phones as against the national average of 92.82% of people using mobile phones, according to Odisha Economic Survey, 2019-20 which was tabled in assembly yesterday.

The villages uncovered by mobile phone network are mostly located in the left wing extremism (LWE) affected pockets of Koraput, Kandhamal, Malakangiri and Koraput.

It may be recalled here that BJD lawmaker Amar Patnaik had raised the poor mobile and net connectivity issue in Odisha in Rajya Sabha recently.
