Bhubaneswar : Heavy rain has triggered flood situation in State’s five districts, disrupting road communication and train services in the affected pockets.
The State government is taking stock of the flood situation round-the-clock in the affected Kalahandi, Boudh, Bolangir, Subranapur and Kandhamal districts and the authorities flanked by the services of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and fire services personnel are on the job to evacuate the people in marooned pockets and bring them to the safety of temporary relief camps, said Special Relief Commissioner Bisnupada Sethi.
There was heavy rainfall in the affected districts in last 24 hours. While the State recorded average rainfall of 66 mm, two blocks in Kalahandi and Bolangir district registered 400 mm rainfall. Four other blocks of both these districts also witnessed heavy rains varying from 300 to 400 mm. The highest 608 mm rainfall was recorded at Karlamunda in Kalahandi district, said SRC office.
The current spell of rain and food since past fortnight has claimed eight human lives so far while two persons who were washed away in flood water are reported missing, it said.
