Maoist Area Commander, Carrying Rs 4 Lakh Cash Reward On His Head, Surrenders
Tough and stressed life in the forests, growing disillusionment with the Maoist ideology drove hardcore Maoist leader in Odisha’s Malkangiri district to give up arms and return to the mainstream.
Close on the heels of Odisha police making the biggest seizure of arms, ammunition and explosives in Maoists hideouts last week in Malkangiri, the surrender of the Maoist leader Jipro Habika, who was carrying Rs 4 lakh cash reward on his head, has come in a shot in the arm for Malkangiri police.
Habika (30) was the Area Committee Member of Gumma Area Committee under MKVB Division of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) outfit.
The Maoist area commander who was wanted in a series of offences including murder, arson and armed attack on security forces engaged in combing operation, surrendered today as he was exasperated with deviation from ideology, said police officials
He will receive governmental assistance in accordance with rehabilitation policy applicable for Maoists who join to mainstream, said police officials.
