Nahan(Himachal Pradesh): Fear gripped the students and the teachers of a government school when they saw 20 bats lying dead in the school bus.
The students feared the attack of Nipah virus after it claimed 12 lives in Kerala so far.
The bewildered school administration quickly informed the health ministry official and they immediately came to school and collected the blood samples of the bats.
“The principal of the school and the students said that bats come here every year, and eventually perish, however, this year, their numbers are far greater than in previous years,”
An official from health department said. “We have informed the teachers, students of the school about the virus, its symptoms, preventive measures. We told them to avoid physical contact in case of an outbreak, as this is a communicative disease,” he added.
Nipah virus hit Kerala and claimed 12 lives in Calicut and Kozhikod districts.
After the reports came, The Union Minister J P Nadda directed the Director of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to visit Kozhikode district to assist the state government.
