Bhubaneswar: In its efforts to maintain cleanliness on trains and in stations, Indian Railways has started supplying Rail Neer in biodegradable bottles on a pilot basis.
On the 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, the government had appealed to discard single use plastic.
IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporate Ltd) providing catering facilities on Indian Railways, has tweeted “IRCTC’s big leap in curbing the use of single use plastic-succesfully tests biogradable packaging for Rail Neer”.
Its supply has been started in the Tejas Express on Lucknow-New Delhi-Lucknow route as a pilot project, it said.
Rail Neer is produced in Indian Railways’ own plant for supply in trains and stations.
IRCTC, which used to supply Rail Neer in plastic bottles, would do so through biodegradable bottles.
However, the price of bottles would continue to be Rs.15, sources said. EOM
