Railways Waste-To-Energy Plant Commissioned

Bhubaneswar: Indian Railways’ state-of-the-art waste-to-energy plant was commissioned today at Mancheswar Carriage Repair Workshop in Bhubaneswar.

Railway Board Member (Rolling Stock) Rajesh Agarwal inaugurated the plant in a simple function.

Rs 2 crore worth project is the first of its kind in the State. The railways have already successfully set up two such projects in other parts of the country.

Waste generated from carriage workshop, coaching depot at Bhubaneswar, railway station will be the feeder material for this plant. The project involves segregation of bio-degradable and non-degradable waste, Agarwal said.

The energy to be produced from the proposed plant will be in the form of light diesel oil, which is used to light furnaces.
