Bhubaneswar : A nineteen-year-old tigress Priyanka, a major tourist attraction, died today following old age related ailments, bringing down the number of tigers in Nandankanan zoo to 26.
“It was sad news for us. Despite best vets’ efforts, we could not save PriyankaIt was being taken care at the intensive care unit of the zoo hospital. However it failed to respond to treatment and died at about 10 AM today”, said Jayant Kumar Das, Deputy Director of the Zoo.
Tigress Priyanka born on March 25, 2000 to parents Ashok and Tanuja lived a healthy and full live. It had completed its her average lifespan. While the big cats live for 16 to 18 years in the wild, their lifespan in captive zoos extends to 18 to 20 years, said the official.
