Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia movie director Manmohan Mahapatra, recipient of eight national awards, passed away at a city-based private hospital on Monday afternoon.
He was 69. He is widely acclaimed for directing a slew of artistic and upbeat Odia movies.
Some of the memorable movies directed by him and carrying the stamp of attributes of artistic dexterity are “Nischinta Swapna”, “Majhi Pahacha”, “Niraba Jhada”, “Sita Rati” and “Bhinna Samaya”.
Alumnus of film and television institute of India, he is credited with directing “Sita Rati (chilly night), which was the first Odia movie to be screened at international film festival.
Odia film fraternity expressed deep condolence over Mahapatra’s death.
