With 72 Cases Against Him, Azam Khan May Be Declared ‘History Sheeter’

Rampur: Samajwadi Party MP Mohd Azam Khan has mostly been in the news for the wrong reasons and considering his brushes with the law, the demagogue leader would soon be declared as a history sheeter by the Uttar Pradesh police. A total of 72 cases that have been filed against the parliamentarian under various sections of the IPC and CrPC and this may prompt the police force to list him as a history sheeter. Rampur District Magistrate Aunjaneya Kumar Singh said on Monday that “since most cases lodged against Azam Khan are criminal, including cases of land grabbing and theft, we have decided to open his history sheet.”

He said that of the 72 cases, the police had already filed a chargesheet in 15 cases while investigations were on in other cases. The latest case filed against the SP MP was on Thursday. He has been booked for usurping land and including it in the Jauhar University campus.

Several farmers have also lodged complaints of land grabbing against Azam Khan, who has even been charged with theft of books and lion statues.

A few days ago, the ED has initiated a money laundering probe against Azam Khan following allegations that Jauhar university run by him in Rampur district has been built over a land taken in violation of the enemy property law. Khan, a Lok Sabha MP from Rampur and a former state cabinet minister under Akhilesh Yadav’s rule, has already been booked by the central probe agency under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), based on at least 26 criminal FIRs filed by the local police on charges of land grab and extortion.

Last month, Khan apologised in Lok Sabha to BJP member Rama Devi for his sexist remarks made against her. Several women MPs had condemned his statement and demanded that speaker take strict action against him.
